LeMaster joins council race (02/02/08)
Another Republican has joined the race for her party's nomination for an at-large seat on the Jay County Council.
Incumbent councilwoman Judy LeMaster, 516 W. Race St., Portland, filed Friday to run for another term on the council.
She joins three other Republicans - Marilyn Coleman, Dennis Mason Jr. and Jerry Monroe - and one Democrat (Gary Theurer) in the race.
Each party will select up to three nominees who will run in the general election Nov. 4. The county council is comprised of four district seats, which are not up for election this year, and three at-large seats.
Those seats are currently held by Republicans Jim Zimmerman, Coleman and LeMaster. Zimmerman has filed to run for Commissioner of the South District, a seat currently held by Theurer.
Democratic councilman Gerald Kirby has also filed to run for the south district commissioners seat.
Filing for major party primary candidates continues through Friday, Feb. 22.
This year's busy election cycle features a variety of county, state and federal offices - including Indiana governor and U.S. President.
The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 6.
A school board election will be held in Jay County along with the general election Nov. 4.
