Leonhard praised for efforts (12/24/04)

By To the editor:-

As a resident and taxpayer of Jay County you always hope that you’re getting the most out of your tax dollars. As a voter in Jay County you always hope that you get the elected official that will do the best job for the county and the taxpayers.

We have been fortunate to have such an official for the last eight years. Commissioner Mike Leonhard will be completing his term on Dec. 31, 2004 and attending his last commissioners meeting on Monday, Dec. 28. This is a man who truly cares about what is best for Jay County and its residents.

As county employees we got to see this first-hand. Mike is the only commissioner who ever came to our office on a regular basis. He didn’t just come out if there was a problem. He would come by just to see what was going on and how things were going. We know that he did this with other county departments, too. As county employees this meant a great deal to us.

We felt like he truly cared about Jay Emergency Medical Service and the people who worked here. A lot of changes have gone on in the last eight years and Mike has always been a working part of the progress.

If we had questions or problems, we knew that we could contact Mike at any time. We really want to thank Mike for standing up for the county employees during the final decision-making process regarding our insurance. We are so grateful to him for this, as it takes less money from our paychecks, gives us better benefits, and costs the taxpayers of Jay County less money.

Mike’s shoes will be very hard to fill and he will be greatly missed.
