Library looking toward future
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
How do you see the future?
That is the question on fliers posted at the Jay County Public Library.
Below the question is a picture of a small child standing in the middle of a road gazing into the distance. Hands on hips, wind blowing her hair, you can probably imagine yourself in the same setting.
The Jay County Public Library is starting to look toward its future. We are attempting to put together a road map that will guide the library for the next five years. Libraries, like any business or educational institution, need to engage in intentional planning.
I have been in the position as director at JCPL for just two months. In this short time I have quickly discovered the outstanding resource this library is for the Jay County community. From books to movies to magazines and e-books, JCPL has a little bit of everything for everyone’s tastes.
Library patrons also have access to the collections of 100 other libraries throughout the state in the Evergreen Indiana consortium. Top that all off with a facility that is inviting and we truly have a library to be proud of.
Libraries face a tough time in dealing with declining revenue and the seeming threat of technological advances. This gives libraries all the more reason to plan for ways of strengthening service to the community.
In this pursuit we want to invite the community to play a role in the planning process. Please consider filling out a short survey (either on paper at the library or online at jaycpl.lib.in.us) to help us spot what we are doing well and what we can improve on as well as help us develop priorities.
If you want to have a more detailed discussion, consider joining a community focus group, a one hour session (with different times available) to talk about the library led by library consultants on Feb. 7. See our website or give us a call (726-7890) to sign up.
What does the future hold for JCPL?
I’m excited to find out, and I am hoping you will help us on this journey.
Either way please continue to enjoy using the Jay County Public Library!
