Library welcomes back patrons
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
As many of you have probably heard, Jay County Public Library is now back open with fully restored services.
It truly is with a grateful heart that I make this announcement. As I look back at that fateful day in March when this long journey started there is much relief, that yes, we made it.
A little bit of upheaval, a little bit of struggle is not always a bad thing to face. In our case it has been a time of learning to appreciate the great facility and library that we have. And, it is an opportunity to assess how we can continue to positively impact the community.
We also saw the adaptability of both our staff and patrons. Our staff quickly adapted to their new routines and lack of their old workspaces. It was gratifying to see patrons sitting at the tables set up in the foyer reading newspapers and using their laptops like it was the most natural thing in the world to them.
Our Community Room became a true “community” room as we crammed as many materials and computers in as we could to create our new makeshift library.
I am thankful to all of you who spoke such kind words of encouragement throughout this ordeal. We were able to see firsthand how much this community loves its library. So many people look forward to coming into the building, enjoying the resources we offer or just relaxing in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
Thank you for your patience with us while we were closed for two weeks and patience as we operated out of main foyer and Community Room. It was not always ideal but I believe we made do the best we could in spite of the circumstances.
I want to invite you to join us for a celebration of our re-opening on Wednesday at the library. Enjoy a cookie or some popcorn and a drink on us — we will be glad to see you back.
