Portland Board of Works

A new park in the city will soon have an artery.
Members of a local board voted Wednesday to hire a Berne company to create a drive in Hudson Family Park.
LICA Construction Corp. was chosen by the Portland Board of Works to create a drive into the center of the park. The drive will provide access to trails, which also are in the process of development.
The work is expected to begin Nov. 5, and be completed in about two weeks, said Nola Albrecht, landscape architect for The Schneider Corporation.
A total of four bids were submitted for the project. LICA submitted the low bid at $64,292.06. Albrecht recommended to the board that the LICA bid be chosen.
Also submitting bids were Tumbusch Construction Inc., St. Henry, Ohio ($68,059.45); JG Cast Construction, Muncie ($106,587); and Dirtworks & Asphalt, Parker City ($121.374).
Jeff Harker, street and park department superintendent, said after the meeting that the project will be funded through park department funds.
The drive will begin at the park entrance off South Wayne Street near Union Street. That entrance, completed in 2006, features a replica of the concrete bowstring truss arch bridge that carries Meridian Street (U.S. 27) over the Salamonie River in Portland.[[In-content Ad]]
