Ludy powers Baylor
Collegiate Check-up
A Jay County High School graduate powered the Baylor University baseball team to a 10-3 victory Wednesday over Sam Houston State.
Josh Ludy, JCHS class of 2008, drove in three runs for the Bears in the win.
Ludy drove in all three of his runs in the first inning when he smacked a bases-loaded double down the right-field line. He was hit by a pitch in the third inning, and walked and scored a run in the fifth.
The senior catcher also had three hits, a run and an RBI in a 9-4 win Friday over Texas Tech. He added a run as Baylor defeated Texas Tech again Sunday, 8-1.
Ludy is hitting .308 on the year and leads the Bears (15-7) with 17 RBIs.
Karen Bollenbacher
South Adams – 2010
Helped the Huntington University softball team rack up 11 first-inning runs Friday in an 11-2, five-inning victory over Waldorf.
Bollenbacher was one of seven Foresters to pick up a hit in the first inning. She also had a run and an RBI for Huntington (8-4).
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2009
Turned in a top-10 finish for the Indiana Tech men’s track team Saturday at the Wake Forest Open.

Reynard’s top individual effort came with a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. He posted a time of 53.45 seconds.
The junior also teamed with Jordan Foster, D’Quan Ruth and Austen Barnes for fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3 minutes, 14.11 seconds.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Also competed at the Wake Forest Open for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team.
Johnson placed 53rd in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 22.31 seconds.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Provided some offense off the bench for the Ball State University baseball team Saturday in a 14-5 loss to No. 21 Louisville.
Wellman entered the game as a pinch hitter and finished 1-for-2. He also drove in a run.
Jana Beitler
South Adams – 2009
Scored one of the Goshen College women’s softball team’s runs Saturday in a 12-4 loss to Bluffton in the second game of a doubleheader.
Beitler finished 1-for-3 for the Maple Leafs (6-8) in the loss. She also had a run and an RBI.
She also had a hit as Goshen lost the first game of the doubleheader 12-1, and had a single Tuesday in an 8-2 loss to Calumet.
