Ludy single lifts Baylor

Collegiate Check-up

When the Bears needed a hit, Josh Ludy was there to deliver.
Ludy, a 2008 Jay County High School graduate, drove in the game-winning run Saturday to lift the Baylor University baseball team to a 14-13 victory over Big 12 rival Texas Tech.
After the Bears (14-7) blew a nine-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, Texas Tech retired their first two batters in the bottom of the frame. First baseman Max Muncy was hit by a pitch to keep the game alive, and then designated hitter Joey Hainsfurther singled to set the stage for Ludy.
The junior finished off one of the best games of his career with a single to right field, bringing home Muncy with the winning run. He finished 3-of-6 at the plate, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning, and had five RBIs and a stolen base.
Ludy also walked and scored in a run in Tuesday’s 6-1 victory over UT-Arlington, and had a hit and an RBI in a 10-6 loss to Texas Tech on Sunday. He had an outstanding series March 11 through 13 in a three-game sweep of Louisiana Tech, racking up six hits, including a home run, five RBIs and three runs.
For the season, Ludy is hitting .284 with 14 RBIs and 11 runs in 20 games.

Tyler Rigby
Jay County – 2006
Scored 20 points in the final game of his career as the Indiana University East men’s basketball team lost 95-92 to No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Tournament.
Rigby led five Red Wolves in double figures in the team’s first tournament appearance. He shot 8-of-16 with a pair of 3-pointers, and also had a team-high seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
The senior was also IU-East’s winner of the NAIA Champions of Character Award for the second straight season. He finished the season ranked 19th in the nation in scoring at 19.1 points per game.
Rigby also averaged 5.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks this season. He departs as the Red Wolves’ all-time leading scorer with 1,709 points.

Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery – 2009
Earned a pair of all-conference honors this month for the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team.
Snyder earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honorable mention after averaging 7.8 points during her sophomore season. She also grabbed 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent from 3-point range and 78 percent at the foul line.
She also earned Academic All-OAC honorable mention.

Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Turned in a pair of runner-up efforts Saturday for the Goshen College women’s track team as it finished fourth out of six teams at the Dick Small Invitational hosted by Defiance College.
Beitler’s opened her day with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, where she trailed teammate Alita Yoder in 21 minutes, 30.03 seconds.
She was also the runner-up in the 10,000 run with a time of 43:32.2.

Chase Ingle
South Adams – 2010
Contributed to the Hanover College men’s tennis team’s third straight victory Saturday, 8-1 over Miami-Hamilton.
Ingle played at No. 4 singles for the Panthers, cruising to an 8-0 victory over Joe Dunn. He also picked up a singles win March 12, 6-0, 6-2 over Matt Schmittou, as Hanover (6-3) defeated Mount St. Joseph 8-1.

Karen Bollenbacher
South Adams – 2010
Helped the Huntington University softball team to a 15-0, five-inning destruction of Fisher College on March 15.
Bollenbacher entered the game as a pinch-hitter and finished 1-for-3. She drove in three runs and also scored once.
The freshman added a single and an RBI March 12 as the Foresters (8-0) defeat Brescia 7-1.

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Scored two points for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team as it ended its season March 5 with a 73-64 loss to Wayne State in the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Kahlig scored both of his points at the foul line and also had three rebounds and one steal in the loss. Despite finishing 24-4, the Oilers failed to make the NCAA Division II Tournament after nine straight appearances.
In his freshman season, Kahlig finished fourth on the Findlay squad with an average of 8.9 points per game. He also had 3.1 rebounds per game to go along with 35 assists, 13 steals and seven blocks while shooting 88 percent from the free-throw line.

Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Had a hit for the Ball State University baseball team Sunday in an 8-4 loss to Belmont.
Wellman smacked a two-out single for the Cardinals (2-16) in the second inning, but was stranded on first base. He also contributed the only run for BSU on March 9, crushing a pinch-hit home run to left-center field in a 12-1 loss to College of Charleston.

Daniel Bollenbacher
South Adams – 2008
Suffered the loss March 16 as the Lincoln Memorial University baseball team fell 5-4 to Northern Kentucky in 13 innings.
Bollenbacher entered the game in the 12th inning and pitched one scoreless frame before giving up a run in the top of the 13th. The Railsplitters (18-3) went down in order in the bottom of the frame.
He allowed one run on two hits and three walks in two innings of work.[[In-content Ad]]
