Ludy singles key for Baylor

A Jay County High School graduate played a key role as the Baylor University baseball team broke a four-game losing streak.
Josh Ludy, JCHS class of 2008, smacked a couple of hits Sunday to help lead the Bears to a 12-4 victory over Kansas.
Ludy was hit by a pitch in Baylor’s two-run first inning, and he singled and scored as part of its three-run third. He also added a single in the eighth inning for the Bears (17-13).
The junior racked up three hits, including a pair of doubles, two stolen bases and an RBI Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to Sam Houston. He drove in two runs with a double Saturday and had a double, a run and an RBI Friday in losses to Kansas.
Ludy has started 25 of 30 games for Baylor and is hitting .293 with six doubles and two home runs. He ranks second on the team with 19 RBIs, and has also scored 14 runs.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2010
Turned in a runner-up finish Saturday as the Indiana Tech men’s track team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State.
Reynard’s second-place effort came in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.56. Only three of the 27 competitors in the race broke the 55-second mark.
He also joined Zac Chapman, Jonathan Tims and Billy Henderson to finish in second in the 4x400 relay in 3 minutes, 21.45 seconds.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Led the Ball State University baseball team to a 6-3 victory Sunday over Miami-Ohio.
Wellman followed a Mitch Widau single with a home run to center field in the third inning to give the Cardinals (6-19) a 4-0 lead.
It was his second home run of the season, and lifted his slugging percentage to a team-best .487.
The sophomore also had a single Saturday as Ball State dropped the second game of the series 11-8 to Miami, and walked once as the Cardinals took the series opener 2-0 on Friday.
Chase Ingle
South Adams – 2010
Picked up one of the Hanover College men’s tennis team’s five singles victories in a 6-3 win Tuesday over Mount St. Joseph.
Ingle played at No. 6 singles and rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Matt Schmittou. His 4-2 record this season is second-best on the Panther squad.
Jana Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Had an extra-base hit Friday for the Goshen College softball team in a 6-5 loss to Calumet.
Beitler ripped a double to center field to start the bottom of the fifth inning for the Maple Leafs (9-9). She advanced to third on a single by Stacey Cline and then scored on a throwing error.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Helped the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track to a runner-up finish Saturday at the DePauw Invitational.
Johnson’s best effort came in the 800-meter run, in which she finished fourth out of 32 competitors with a time of 2 minutes, 21.25 seconds. She was also 12th in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 7¾ inches.[[In-content Ad]]
