Collegiate Check-up
A Jay County High School graduate had hits in three out of four games as his team fell just short of advancing in the NCAA Tournament.
Josh Ludy, JCHS class of 2008, totaled three hits, three RBIs and a run in the Baylor University baseball team’s four tournament games. His team won its first two tournament contests before falling to California twice, including a 9-8 loss in Monday’s deciding game, to drop out of the tournament.
In that final game, Baylor had an 8-5 lead before California scored four times in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Ludy’s best game came Saturday in its 3-2 upset of top-seeded Rice, ranked ninth in the nation, as he drove in two of the Bears’ three runs. He had an RBI single to score Max Muncy in the first inning, and plated Brooks Pinckard on a ground-out in the third.
The junior also had a hit and an RBI in Baylor’s 6-4 victory June 3 over California in its tournament opener. He had a hit as California shut out Baylor 8-0 two days later, and scored a run in the 9-8 defeat.
For the season, Ludy finished as a .278 hitter and was second on the team with 34 RBIs. He also scored 26 runs.[[In-content Ad]]
