Map error fixed
Jay County Planning Commission
The Jay County Planning Commission corrected an error with the county zoning map in a short meeting Thursday evening.
The commission addressed a zoning error on about 11 acres of land north of New Mount Pleasant that had been incorrectly zoned as environmentally protected.
Milligan told the Jay County Commissioners in November that he believes that zoning classification was meant for a former auto salvage yard adjacent to this particular property.
“It was zoned environmental protection when it was supposed to be ag residential,” said commission president Jim Zimmerman.
Jay/Portland Building and Planning director Bill Milligan said that the lot has nothing on it that could deem it an environmental danger and hasn’t since zoning was implemented.
The error was discovered when the owner attempted to sell the land and ran into difficulty because of the EP classification.
The commission approved the change to correct the error.
In other business Thursday night, the planning commission:
•Elected officers for 2011. The board retained president Jim Zimmerman, vice president Scott Hilfiker, attorney Bill Hinkle and recording secretary Patti McLaughlin.
The board elected Paula Confer as secretary and appointed the incoming Purdue Cooperative Extension Officer to serve as the board’s representative on the Portland Planning Commission, once he or she is selected by the extension board. Both appointments were to replace former board member John Knipp, who retired as extension officer.[[In-content Ad]]
