FRHS boys basketball
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Indians saw yet another chance at a Midwest Athletic Conference victory slip away.
Fort Recovery has been in the battle in four of its six MAC games, including having a two-point lead after three quarters against the Marion Local Flyers Friday night. But it gave up a 10-0 run in the final period and got outscored 25-15 in a 53-45 defeat.
The Tribe (4-8, 0-6 MAC) led 30-28 at the end of the third quarter following a pair of Tony Diller free throws. They were up again at 32-31 after a jumper by Diller, but failed to score for nearly three minutes.
By the time they got on the board again the Flyers had put together a 10-0 run — all by Moellers. Dan Moeller opened the rally with a 3-pointer, which was followed by a score from Corey Moeller, a 3-pointer by Curtis Moeller and another two points from Corey Moeller. Fort Recovery got back to within three points at 48-45 when Diller scored with 38 seconds to play, but didn’t make another shot.
Mitch Tobe led a balanced scoring effort for the Flyers, who won for just the second time all season to move to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in the MAC. He had 12 points and was followed by Damon Bertke with 11, Curtis Moeller and Chris Stucke each with eight and Dan Moeller with seven.
Corey Moeller had 10 rebounds, and Bertke grabbed five.
Clint Tobe scored all of his team-high 15 points for the Indians from 3-point range. Travis VanSkyock added 13 points and five rebounds, and Diller scored 10 points. Ryan Staugler finished with four assists.
Fort Recovery also dropped the junior varsity game 45-27, shooting just 29 percent compared to 50 percent for the Flyers.
Aaron Kahlig had 10 points and four rebounds for the Indians.
Marion Local was led by Tyler Obringer and Alex Moeller with 10 points apiece. The Flyers built a 19-2 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back as they shot 10-of-16 (63 percent) in the first half.[[In-content Ad]]
