Martin earns first win (04/10/06)

A 2002 South Adams graduate picked up his first win of the year Wednesday as his Bluffton University men’s tennis team defeated Tri-State 5-4.
Pete Martin accounted for two of the five points for the victorious Beavers, starting with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Brandon Appleton at No. 4 singles. He also teamed with Blake Babcock for a 9-8 (7-5) win over Nick Winningham and Matt Philhower at No. 2 doubles.
Martin lost both his matches in a 9-0 defeat to Findlay, including a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Steven Fox at No. 4 singles. He and Babcock fell 8-4 to Travis Whipple and Jeremy Jackson at No. 2 doubles.
Jill Roughia
Jay County - 2005
Scored a second-place finish as the Huntington University women’s track team was third at a three-team meet at Manchester April 1.
Roughia was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run, finishing five seconds behind Becca Flanders of the host Spartans in 5-minutes, 7.29 seconds.
Mitch Waters
Jay County - 2002
Kept his hot streak with the Manchester College Baseball team rolling with two more outstanding relief efforts.
Waters, who continues to lead the Spartans with a 1.67 ERA, tossed 12/3 scoreless innings of relief in a 6-4 win over Bluffton Thursday. He struck out three batters.
He also went 22/3 innings in a 7-4 win over Bluffton April 1, giving up one run on two hits.
Nicole VanSkyock
Jay County - 2004
Notched a fourth-place finish for the Anderson University women’s track team, which won as hosts of the Runners Forum Invitational April 1.
VanSkyock finished the 1,500-meter run in 5-minutes, 11.49 seconds to place fourth.
Jennifer Lehman
South Adams - 2004
Contributed to a runner-up relay finish for the Bluffton women’s track team, which hosted the three-team Beaver Invitational April 1.
Lehman joined Ashley Smith, Kirstie Dravenstott and Rita Muether for second place in the 4x100-meter relay in 54.61 seconds. She was also fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.56 seconds.
Carrie Nichols
South Adams - 2003
Picked up multiple hits in wins for the University of St. Francis softball team over Tri-State and Taylor recently.
Nichols went 3-for-4 for the Cougars, who topped Tri-State 7-6 in game two of double-header action April 1. She added a pair of hits in another game-two double header, 5-3, over Taylor Tuesday.
Heath Williams

Doubled in the first inning of game one as the Ancilla College baseball team split a double-header with Kalamazoo College April 4.
Williams’ double was one of three to lead off the game for the Chargers, who won the opener 9-7. They dropped game two, 1-0.
He also had a pair of hits in Ancilla’s 12-2 loss to Lake Michigan Thursday.[[In-content Ad]]
