FRHS baseball/softball
FORT RECOVERY and ROCKFORD, Ohio - Parkway's pitching spelled down for the Indians Friday night.
Panther freshman Emily Crowell just missed a no-hitter in pitching a 7-0 victory over the host Fort Recovery High School softball team. The Tribe baseball team went on the road and managed just three hits in a 15-5, 5-inning loss to Parkway.
Crowell was just one batter away from a no-hit shutout for the Panthers (13-5, 4-2 Midwest Athletic Conference), but her counterpart foiled the bid. Fort Recovery senior Beth May picked up her team's only hit with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The only other offensive stats for the Tribe came from LeAnne Tobe (walk) and Ashley Grube (stolen base).
May took the loss, giving up the seven runs on 10 hits and two walks. She struck out one batter.
Val Fortkamp threw out a pair of runners attempt to steal as the Indians slipped to 5-15 overall and 0-6 in the MAC. They have lost three straight heading into today's sectional semifinal game against Marion Local at New Bremen at 2 p.m.
Fort Recovery's baseball team (7-9, 2-6 MAC), which plays in sectional semifinal action today against Waynesfield-Goshen at Minster at 3:30 p.m., fell behind 7-0 in the first three innings. It pulled within 8-5, but then gave up seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Bobby Rammel took the loss as six of the seven runs against him in 2 1/3 innings were earned. He walked four and struck out three.
Frank Thien doubled and scored a run, and Nate Keller had a single and a run. Brady Kahlig had the only other hit for the Indians, and Clint Tobe, Cody Fiely and Greg Kahlig each scored once.
