Mayor supports FCC (7/8/05)

This letter is being written in support of FCC (Indiana) located here in Portland. As most know, several weeks ago FCC had some serious claims made against them by individuals from the Delaware Circuit Court regarding FCC (Indiana) possibly violating jury duty policies involving a temporary employee.

As a retired police officer and mayor, I have the utmost respect for the judicial system and how important jury duty responsibility is. However, I was disappointed that such negative publicity was reported and printed regarding this issue without FCC having the initial opportunity to present their facts. After FCC was given the opportunity to present the facts they were found not to be in contempt of court. A judgment was ordered that the company’s policy was in accordance with the laws of the state of Indiana and FCC had complied with these laws pertaining to this case.

Another disappointment came when after FCC was exonerated of these charges, a Delaware County newspaper, which had run such a negative article, failed to report the follow-up conclusion in a timely manner. A company such as FCC which has an excellent history as a company in Portland, has over 500 employees (never had a layoff), will pay more than $650,000 in property taxes for 2005 and is a wonderful community partner by donating thousands of dollars a year to local charities deserved better coverage through the conclusion of this matter.

As Mayor of Portland I’m proud to have FCC (Indiana) as a wonderful business and community partner for Portland, Jay County, East Central Indiana and the entire state.

They are a company that operates with the highest degree of integrity, with a caring attitude about their employees.

Hopefully as I learned a long time ago that the procedure in our judicial system is still about having all the facts presented before judgment is rendered will serve everyone in a fair and impartial manner.
