McCain right about earmarks (03/17/2009)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

I have to respectfully disagree with you on your editorial of Thursday, March 12, 2009.

In reference to John McCain and his knowledge of what the earmarks are for.

The average person has a budget that they live by, and when times get hard and money short, it gets pared down to only the necessary things needed. You eventually learn what are really needs and what are wants.

These are troubling times, and it's time to consider what is needed and what isn't by Congress. I think this is what Mr. McCain was referring to.

The majority of people (who Congress is supposed to be listening to) are not saying some of the earmarks weren't worthy causes (though most weren't) but not now!

I personally don't think the study of hog odors (not that I enjoy that smell) is more important than helping people be able to feed their families and pay their bills.

"Earmarks" should be eliminated by both Democrats and Republicans.

If you want something passed, do it separately, not snuck into another bill that has to be passed. Be open and honest and let the people vote.

If Congress will listen to their constituents, when will "the people" get a voice back in Congress or Washington?

"Our" elected officials are not listening to "us"! They might get a big surprise if they are voted out of office next election.

I, for one, am saying to all the earmarks and pork: No.

It is time to only do what is "necessary" not "wanted."

I am sure the jobless people will put up with the hog odor if it means they could get food on the table to feed their children.
