Winning the Mid-American Conference shot put title got a couple more awards for Kerri McClung as well.
McClung, a 2000 graduate of Jay County, was selected to the All-MAC track and field first team. She won the MAC shot put championship at 51 feet, seven inches — just a half-inch better than Breann Smith of Kent — and was the only member of the Bowling Green women’s track team to earn the honor.
The fifth-year senior was also named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week along with Falcon baseball player Burke Badenhop and Buffalo softball player Melissa Pace.
In addition to her conference shot put title, McClung has also broken the BGSU school record three times this year. She set her current top mark at Akron’s Campbell/Wright Open at 52 feet, 81/4 inches.
Joscie Kaup
The Fort Recovery graduate scored a run for the Syracuse softball team in the Big East Tournament, but the Orange dropped out with a 4-1 loss to top-seeded Notre Dame.
Kaup accounted for the lone run for Syracuse, which had split its first two tournament games with a loss to Seton Hall and a win over Villanova. She entered the game against the Fighting Irish as a pinch runner in the fifth inning after catcher Katie Kaempfer led off with a walk.
She advanced to second on a single by Tanya Rose, to third on a fielder’s choice grounder by Chanel Roehner and scored on a throwing error.
Seeing all her time this year as a pinch runner for the Orange (28-22), Kaup played in 19 games and scored seven runs.
Mitch Waters
A graduate of Jay County, he pitched in the final game of the season for the Manchester College baseball team.
Waters tossed a pair of scoreless innings, striking out one batter as the Spartans (32-14) lost 6-3 to Otterbein to drop out of the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional tournament at Rose-Hulman.
The junior made seven pitching appearances this season, finishing 1-2 with a 5.65 ERA. He struck out five batters in 141/3 innings.
He also had a .222 batting average with one home run, six doubles, 12 RBIs and 13 runs.[[In-content Ad]]
