McClung resigns board
A member of the Portland Park Board has resigned due to a clause in Indiana law.
Kent McClung submitted his resignation Friday afternoon to Portland Mayor Bruce Hosier. While researching Indiana codes, he discovered that members of the Portland City Council are prohibited from serving on a park board. "Neither a municipal executive nor a member of a county fiscal body, county executive, or municipal fiscal body may serve on a board," is the code he quoted in his letter of resignation. His resignation is effective immediately.
In his letter, McClung stated, "It has been a pleasure to work with your administration as the city has seen the near completion of Hudson Family Park, the completion of the River Road Trail and numerous other park upgrades and improvements. I will especially miss serving the board as it begins the process of completing Hudson Family Park and building a new municipal swimming pool."
McClung was appointed to the park board by Hosier in October of 2004, after board member Donald Gillespie resigned. He was elected to the District 7 seat on the Portland City Council in November of 2007.[[In-content Ad]]
