McMillan 2nd at Polar Bear invite

Three local athletes were on the track in Marion on Saturday, competing in their first outdoor meet of the season before the snow fell a day later.
Jordan McMillan, a 2011 Jay County High School graduate, paced the group as she posted a runner-up finish for the Ball State University women’s team at the Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
McMillan easily took second place in the 100-meter dash, finishing more than three tenths of a second ahead of third-place runner Brianna Gregory of Huntington in 13 seconds flat. The only athlete ahead of McMillan was her Cardinal teammate, Janae Taylor.
The sophomore also posted a time of 27.22 for ninth place in the 200 dash.
Tim Lehman (South Adams – 2012) also picked up a top-10 finish for the Goshen College men’s team as he took seventh in the 400 dash in 53.02. He added a 19th-place effort in the 200 dash in 24.04.
Hannah Moore (South Adams – 2012) ran in one event for the Huntington University women’s team, taking 11th in the 5,000 run in 18 minutes, 50.9 seconds.

Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Had a huge day at the plate Saturday while his Ball State University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Akron.
Wellman went 6-for-8 on the day to lift his batting average to .319. He had two hits and a run for the Cardinals (11-10) as they dropped the opener 7-4, and was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a 4-3 loss in the second game.

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Was named March 21 to the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region first team.
Kahlig, who was also a first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, led the University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 22-8 record this season as he averaged a team-best 17 points per game. He added 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 44 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the foul line.

Danielle Wellman
Wapahani – 2012
Totaled three hits as the Grace College softball team opened the home portion of its schedule against Cornerstone.
Wellman went 2-for-3 in the home opener as the Lancers (4-12) fell 4-2. She added a hit in the second game and scored Grace’s only run in a 5-1 loss on a double by Olivia Winget.

Jana Beitler
South Adams – 2009
Scored the only run for the Goshen College softball team Saturday in its 7-1 loss to Marian.
Beitler went 1-for-3 with a single down the left field line for the Maple Leafs (0-12) in the fifth inning. She scored on a double by leadoff hitter Melanie Meyer.

Brianna Nevil
South Adams – 2012
Picked up one hit Tuesday as the Hesston College softball team split a doubleheader with Brown Mackie.
Nevil went 1-for-3 in the opener with a single in the fourth inning. The Larks (4-5) lost the first game 3-2 before bouncing back to win the second 2-0.[[In-content Ad]]
