McMillan is 100 favorite
JCHS girls track
Jordan McMillan was worried she wouldn't hold on to win the sectional championship in the 100-meter dash.
However, no one at the Muncie Southside tournament ran faster. In fact, neither did anyone else who will compete in the race at Tuesday's 6 p.m. Ben Davis regional.
The top three finishers in each event at the regional meet will advance to the state finals.
Of the 16 runners who will compete in the 100 dash, McMillan's sectional time of 12.49 seconds was fastest. She will be the No. 1 seed for the event, and Lawrence North's Khyrstyn Tender is seeded second at 12.54.
The highest seed for the Patriots at last season's regional meet was Lindsey Current at No. 5 in the high jump. Amanda Johnson, a three-time state qualifier and 2008 state medalist, was seeded sixth in the 800 run in both 2006 and 2007.
Not only was McMillan's time the fastest in the regional, but it was also the second-fastest in the entire state during Tuesday's sectional action. Only Ebony Wright of Warren Central ran faster, winning the 100 dash in the Shelbyville sectional in 12.18 seconds.

Covington's Lacey Harmon matched McMillan's time of 12.49, which would have been fifth fastest at the 2008 state finals.
In addition to finishing in the top three, McMillan could also advance to this year's state meet by reaching the state qualifying standard time of 12.39.
The sophomore is also the No. 10 seed in the long jump at 15 feet, 10 inches after finishing second to three-time defending state champion Erynn Young of Muncie Central at the sectional meet. She is the No. 13 seed in the 200 dash at 27 seconds flat.
Current, a senior, is in good position to earn her first state berth. She enters the regional meet in a three-way tie for the No. 2 seed after winning the sectional title at Muncie Central at 5 feet, 2 inches.
She is tied with Rebecca Lomax of Southport and Kalyn Davis from Anderson. DeAirra Goss of Ben Davis holds the No. 1 seed at 5 feet, 3 inches.
JCHS junior Kelsey Wood is in a four-way tie for the No. 7 seed in the event at 5 feet even. The state-qualifying standard is 5 feet, 4½ inches.
Each of the Patriots' other two top-ten seeds - there are 16 competitors in each event - are in the field events.
Sophomore Cara Garringer enters as the No. 5 seed in the shot put with her sectional wining throw of 36 feet, 5¾ inches. North Central's Kyla Buckley is the top seed by a wide margin at 42 feet, 9 inches.
Maria Murphy, a freshman, picked up a sectional title in the discus at 102 feet, 4 inches and is seeded ninth for the regional. Lawrence Central's Taja Moore had a toss of 121 feet, 5 inches in the sectional meet to earn the No. 1 seed.
Other Jay County individuals competing in the regional are Leah Wellman (12th seed - 1,600 run), Brianne Wellman (14th - 300 hurdles, 15th - 100 hurdles) and Katie Butcher (15th - 800 run).
The 4x800 relay team of Liz Lennartz, Kylie Wellman, Butcher and Leah Wellman is seeded 13th, and the 4x400 relay team of Megan Taylor, Kari Hemmelgarn, Macey Gerber and Brianne Wellman is the No. 16 seed.[[In-content Ad]]
