Meter moves possible for Fort (04/03/07)
Fort Recovery Village Council

FORT RECOVERY - Several residents affected by the upcoming water line replacement project on George Street and Hickory Circle have a decision to make.
Village administrator Randy Diller told council members Monday that he plans to draft a letter to approximately 16 of the 27 residents who live in those areas and have their water meters in an enclosed pit in their yards.
During this project, residents may choose to have the meter moved from the pit to inside their home or garage, which would eliminate the pit.
Diller added that the village will pay for $150 of the move and the resident is responsible for the remainder of the costs.
Moving the meter from the pit could cost the resident nothing or up to $250, Diller said.
"They don't have to do it. But if they decide to, they are getting an $150 incentive," Diller told council members.
Besides replacing the water line and making adjustments to the storm drains, new street lights and curbs will be added to the areas affected by the project.
"We are right on schedule," Diller said.
Construction is expected to start in late July or early August.
In other business, council:
•Heard Diller report that the field of applicants for the utility operator position at the water department has been narrowed to four. These applicants will be interviewed and Diller said he hopes to announce his recommendation at the April 16 council meeting. Council approval is not needed to hire this new employee, Diller added.
•Approved the second reading of an annual contract with Mercer County for ambulance service. The village will pay $3,182.50 for services or $2.50 per resident. The council will vote on the contract for the third and final time at its April 16 meeting.
•Accepted several donations to the village - including $3,500 from the Fort Recovery Community Foundation. These funds will be used to bury electric lines that light the playground and shelter house at Fort Site Park, Diller said. The council also accepted a $2,000 donation from the Cooper Family for construction of a small building at the pool for storage of equipment and pool chemicals.[[In-content Ad]]
