Miller breaks Defiance record

After two years away from the sport, Eme Miller joined the Jay County High School cross country team in 2010 and made an immediate impact.
Following another year off in college, Miller has wasted no time in making her presence felt again.
Miller, a 2012 JCHS graduate, broke the Defiance College record for a 5K race Saturday as the Yellow Jackets placed 23rd out of 28 teams at the Calvin Knight Invitational.
The sophomore, who also swims for Defiance, posted a time of 19 minutes, 10.9 seconds to finish 52nd overall.
She shattered the previous Yellow Jacket record by 26 seconds.

Adam Gray
Jay County – 2009
Played consistent golf for the University of St. Francis men’s team in its opening two tournaments of the season.
Gray’s most recent round was his best as he posted a 76 on his second 18 holes Saturday in the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel.
Combined with a 79 in the opening 18 holes at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Gray finished tied for 18th overall with a 155 as the Cougars placed seventh out of 13 teams.
The senior also posted the second-best score for seventh-place USF at the Indiana Wesleyan Fall Invitational Sept. 9 and 10 at Meshingomesia Country Club in Marion.
He shot rounds of 79 and 78 to post a 157 for 20th place overall.

Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Led a group of area runners, including three former Starfire teammates, who competed Saturday at the Lancer Invitational hosted by Grace.
Moore was the only local runner to crack the top 10 as she turned in the No. 2 time for the Huntington University women’s cross country team.
She was 10th overall in 20 minutes, 7.8 seconds, as the Foresters placed second out of seven teams behind NAIA No. 25 Indiana Wesleyan.

Alli Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Followed her former teammate as she ran Saturday for Goshen College in the invitational at Grace.
Beitler posted the No. 5 time for the fourth-place Maple Leafs as she finished in 21 minutes, 2.5 seconds. She was 38th overall.

Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2012
Competed at the Lancer Invitational for the Goshen College men’s team.
Lehman finished 38th overall as the Maple Leafs took the runner-up spot. He had a time of 28 minutes, 26.2 seconds.

Dylan Cope
Jay County – 2013
Trailed just over 30 seconds behind Lehman as he ran at Grace for Indiana University East.
Cope’s time of 28 minutes, 57.1 seconds, was good for 48th place. He was the No. 2 runner for the Red Wolves.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Competed Saturday for the Bethel College men’s cross country team at the Lancer Invitational hosted by Grace.
Heckard finished with a time of 33 minutes, 44 seconds in the 8K race. He was 109th overall as the Pilots placed fifth out of nine squads.

Randa Gillespie
Jay County – 2012
Helped the Manchester College volleyball team to a 25-7, 25-23, 25-10 victory Tuesday over Indiana Northwest.
Gillespie recorded a pair of digs for the Spartans as she played in two games. Manchester moved to 2-9 on the season with the win.

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Played for the Taylor University football team Saturday in its 48-37 loss to St. Ambrose.
Wanner made one solo tackle for the Trojans, who slipped to 1-1. He has five tackles and an interception so far this season.

Kelsey Fiely
Fort Recovery - 2013
Helped the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team with a pair of recent victories as the team improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
Fiely came up with one dig Saturday in the Racers’ three-game victory over Cincinnati Christian. She also played in their 22-25, 28-26, 26-24, 25-21 win over Otterbein.[[In-content Ad]]
