Miller breaks record
Collegiate Check-up
After taking a year off from cross country, Eme Miller broke the Defiance College record in September. Leading a group of local runners competing at Wilmington’s #JennaStrong Fall Classic, she set a new mark again.
Miller, a 2012 Jay County High School graduate, broke her own record Friday as she again led the Yellow Jackets.
Dylan Cope (JCHS – 2013) and Hannah Moore (South Adams – 2012) also competed at the invitational.
Miller snapped her own mark by less than a second, finishing the 5K race in 19 minutes, 9.21 seconds. She set her previous record of 19:10.9 Sept. 14 at the Calvin Knight Invitational.
The sophomore finished 22nd out of 398 runners as Defiance placed 26th in the 34-team field.
Moore helped the Huntington University women’s team to a seventh-place finish. She was the No. 3 runner for the Foresters and finished 47th overall in 19:27.
Cope ran for the Indiana University East men’s cross country team, which placed 29th out of 36 squads. He completed the 8K course in 29:10.61 and finished 253rd overall.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Indiana University East men’s golf team, which finished ninth out of 13 teams Saturday at the Cincinnati State College Classic.
Houck posted a score of 84 at Browns Run Golf & Country Club. He was third on the Red Wolves squad and tied for 31st overall.
Dustin Wanner
SAHS – 2012
Contributed on defense Saturday in the Taylor University football team’s 42-37 loss to Robert Morris.
Wanner made three tackles for the Trojans, who slipped to 3-3. He also broke up one pass attempt.
Randa Gillespie
Jay County – 2012
Helped the Manchester University volleyball team to a couple of home victories Saturday over Earlham and Oberlin.
Gillespie recorded four aces and two digs in the Spartans’ 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-12 win over Earlham and had one ace in the 17-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 15-8 triumph over Oberlin. She also had three digs Wednesday as Manchester (6-17) fell to Bluffton in three games.
Kelsey Fiely
FRHS – 2013
Played for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team Wednesday as it fell 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 to Madonna.
Fiely played in two games and recorded one dig. The loss dropped the Racers to 20-4 on the season.
Katie Simmons
Jay County – 2012
Ran for the IPFW women’s cross country team at Friday’s Bradley Classic.
Simmons posted a time of 23 minutes, 50 seconds, on the 6K course. She finished 189th overall.[[In-content Ad]]
