Miller explains airport duties
Letters to the Editor
I would like to introduce myself to the citizens of the City of Portland and the surrounding area. I am David Miller and I have acted as the Airport Manager of the Portland Municipal Airport for the past twenty years. I enjoy being the Airport Manager, love my job, and love meeting the pilots and people who fly into the airport.
Upon being approached by people in the community regarding the duties of the Airport Manger, I have decided to inform the public, the taxpayers, of my contractual responsibilities as the Airport Manger, which helps insulate the City of Portland and limit the City's liability exposure. Additionally, it is also a matter of public record that I receive $21,000.00 per year in compensation.
As stated in prior contracts I have had with the Aviation Board, the Airport Manager duties in part are:
Provide staff to run the airport terminal/facilities in a safe and clean environment seven days a week, year round.
Be on call day and night.
Provide aircraft that can be rented for flight.
Provide flight instruction.
Provide heat for the terminal.
Provide Property, Premises, and Product Insurance.
Provide snow removal on the runway, taxiway, ramp, and parking area.
Additionally, my staff and I operate Miller Aviation, which is the FBO (Fixed Based Operation) at the Portland Municipal Airport.
The charter flights, crop dusting, and maintenance that Miller Aviation provides to the community and surrounding area offsets the expenses incurred as the Airport Manager. It has been a good relationship between the City of Portland, Miller Aviation, and me. I thank God everyday for this relationship and the opportunities it provides Miller Aviation.
I thoroughly enjoy my job as the Airport Manager and love working at the Portland Municipal Airport. It is a pleasure meeting new people, especially the pilots who utilize the airport. I appreciate the opportunity to provide you, with this informative, factual letter.
Please feel free to stop by the airport for a visit or contact us with any questions at 260-726-4901.
Respectfully,
David B. Miller, manager,
Portland Municipal

Different?
To the editor:
Pastor Nichols' letter to the editor, (CR 1/16/10) quote: "These people need an outpouring of God's (the "Christian" God's) love." Is the "Christian" God different than the "regular" God we are aware or familiar with?
Are there different Gods for special occasions or events?
