Miller sets two record
Collegiate Check-up
DELAWARE, Ohio — Eme Miller just keeps getting better.
The 2012 Jay County High School graduate won her only event and set a school record Tuesday as she competed for the Defiance College women’s track team at Ohio Wesleyan University’s Ron Althoff Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
That effort followed a record-breaking performance Friday at the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
Miller was just off the pace early in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Tuesday, first trailing Ohio Wesleyan’s Alex Tavenier and then running behind OWU’s Brooke Simpson.
But by the halfway point she had taken control, and she pulled away to win by more than 25 seconds over Simpson with a time of 11 minutes, 26.19 seconds.
Her time was seven seconds faster than she posted to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title April 26 and surpassed the Yellowjackets’ record of 11:29.49 set by Kaitlin Switzer in 2011.
Miller was 14th in the 5,000 run at the Dr. Keeler Invitational. She finished in 18:20.75 to shatter the mark of 18:54.58 that Melanie Lenk set in 2004.
She also holds Defiance College records for the indoor 5,000 run (18:24.8), cross country 5K (19:09.21) and cross country 6K (22:37.9).[[In-content Ad]]
