Miller to lead county GOP (01/21/08)
The president of the county's executive body has a new title: Chairman of the Jay County Republican Central Committee.
Milo Miller Jr., who has been president of Jay County Commissioners for more than 10 years, was selected by precinct committeemen Saturday as the new GOP chairman.
The selection of Miller on a unanimous vote of 16 committeemen came after no one else had applied for the position, which was vacated with the resignation several weeks ago of Bryan Alexander. The caucus was held at the Jay Community Center.
At one point during Saturday morning's meeting, several committeemen stepped outside the room to make calls to potential chairpersons. Finding no candidates, the caucus resumed, with Miller agreeing to serve.
Miller, a self-employed contractor, lives at 109 Bittersweet Lane, Portland.
A former member of the county council, Miller has been a commissioner since the early 1990s.
Filing for a busy county-level election cycle begins Wednesday.
Among offices which are up for election are county treasurer, surveyor, coroner, commissioner north and south district, three at-large council seats and judge of Jay Superior and Jay Circuit courts.
The primary is May 6, and the general election is Nov. 4.[[In-content Ad]]
