FRHS football
MINSTER, Ohio - Two quick touchdowns at the end of the first half turned a game that wasn't close on the stat sheet into one that wasn't close on the scoreboard.
After giving up a touchdown to the Fort Recovery Indians midway through the second period that cut their advantage to a touchdown, the host Minster Wildcats scored twice in a little more than a minute on their way to a 28-6 victory Friday night.
The Wildcats, who racked up more than 400 yards in total offense, including 338 on the ground, blew open a tight game with two quick scoring drives after short Fort Recovery punts with the first half clock winding down.
A 24-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Baumer from Minster quarterback Dan Mueller with 1:49 to play gave the Wildcats a 20-6 advantage.
Following a three-and-out Fort Recovery possession that featured three straight incomplete passes and burned just 20 seconds off the clock, the Wildcats went more than 60 yards in just five plays, capped off by a 19-yard scoring run by Andrew Meyer at :36 to take a 28-6 lead that would be the final score.
The Indians, who were held to negative 15 yards rushing on 14 attempts, got 233 yards passing from sophomore quarterback Toby Metzger.
A 5-yard pass to Frank Thien from Metzger at 6:01 of the second quarter accounted for Fort Recovery's only score of the game.
Three Minster players had 80-plus yards rushing Friday, paced by Mueller's 89 yards on 11 carries.
