Mom thanks daughters' helpers
Editor's Mailbag
By To the editor:-
I’d like to thank some people in this community. My youngest daughter has some chronic health problems that are exaggerated by seemingly “minor” illnesses. Due to that, she has been out of school for about four weeks now. The teachers and staff at East Elementary are doing all they can to help make sure my daughter will be able to advance into second grade next year. They are all helping her to stay connected to school and stay connected to her classmates.
The children in her class and their parents, as well as her bus driver, bus riders and teachers, have all chipped in and brought her gifts, made things for her, and put together a “Sunshine Box.”
She gets gifts to open — one gift each day. The joy lasts a long time and the box was decorated by her classmates. It sits in the living room for her to see every day. I don’t know who had the idea, but it was a great one That small daily gift brings her great joy. She realizes she’s not been forgotten and it helps to chase away the loneliness.
I’d also like to thank the people of our church. The people of Noble Christian Church, including the pastor and his wife, have all done part to help. Some have volunteered to baby-sit so I could attend the school functions of my other two daughters, and others have prayed and sent cards.
Everyone has been wonderful to her and to us. I didn’t want to name names (I didn’t want to leave anyone out), but I must list at least one. Linda Lowe at East Elementary has come to my home and helped my daughter on her own time so she won’t get behind; not to mention putting herself at risk. She went, and continues to go, above and beyond the call of duty.
Thanks again to everyone who has helped to bring a little “sunshine” and a lot of love to an ill 7-year-old. She’s getting better.
God bless you all
