Monroe makes council run (01/29/08)
A longtime township trustee has entered the race for an at-large seat on the Jay County Council.
Jerry D. Monroe, 6421 West 300 South, filed Monday to run for the Republican nomination for one of three at-large seats on the county council.
Monroe has been Jefferson Township Trustee for several years.
Up to three nominees from each party will be selected to run in the general election.
The only other filer for a council seat is Redkey Republican Marilyn Coleman, an incumbent and current council president.
Two current members of the county council - Gerald Kirby and Jim Zimmerman - have filed to run for Commissioner of the South District.
Zimmerman is a Republican from rural Redkey, while Kirby, a Democrat, is a Redkey resident.
Gary Theurer, a Democrat who has been commissioner since 1997, is not expected to run for re-election.[[In-content Ad]]
