Moore helps lead Foresters
Collegiate Check-up
Three local athletes were on the track Saturday to compete at the Hanover Invitational.
Hannah Moore, a 2012 South Adams High School graduate, led the group as she helped her Huntington University women’s team to the title. The Foresters scored 146.5 points to win the 12-team event by more than 40 over runner-up Hanover.
Dylan Cope (Jay County – 2013) competed for the 11th-place Indiana University East men’s team, and Megan Taylor (Jay County – 2011) ran for the seventh-place Manchester University women’s squad.
Moore turned in her best effort in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 4.84 seconds. She was just three hundredths of a second behind runner-up Emmy Zimmerman of Earlham and less than a second back of winning HU teammate Erin Rockey.
The sophomore also placed eighth in the 800 run in 2:36.76.
Cope turned in a 13th-place finish in his lone individual event of the day, posting a time of 4:21.71 in the 1,500 run. He joined Red Wolf teammates Kyle Hall, Matt Flood and Kyle Slick for a fourth place finish in the 4x400 relay in 3:41.76.
Taylor’s lone race for the Spartans came in the 400-meter dash as she finished in 15th place. She posted a time of 1 minute, 17.77 seconds.
Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Won her only race Saturday to help lead the host Defiance College women’s track team to victory at the Dick Small Invitational.
Miller earned her first place finish by more than four seconds in the 1,500-meter run. She had the top time of 5 minutes, 0.85 seconds.
Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Played for the East squad Friday in the 2014 Reece’s All-Star Game prior to the NCAA Division II Tournament title game in Evansville.
Kahlig scored seven points in 14 minutes of play, shooting 3-of-6 from the field as his team fell 121-109. He was the fourth player in Oiler history to play in the game.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Took to the course Saturday and Sunday for the Indiana University East men’s golf team, which placed sixth out of nine teams at the Brescia Invitational.
Houck opened the tournament with a 90 at The Players Club of Henderson in Kentucky. He added a second-round 91.[[In-content Ad]]
