Hannah Moore was the top runner for South Adams throughout her high school years. She continued to lead her former teammates Saturday.
Moore turned in the top finish among four former Starfires who competed Saturday at the NAIA Great Lakes Cross Country Challenge hosted by Aquinas College.
The Huntington University freshman and 2012 South Adams High School graduate finished the 5K race in 19 minutes, 6.4 seconds, to take 37th place in a field of 355 runners. She was the No. 3 runner for the Foresters, who are ranked 24th in the NAIA.
Allison Beitler (South Adams – 2010) finished as the No. 3 runner for Goshen College in the women’s race. She posted a time of 21:07.72 for 187th place.
There were also two SAHS graduates competing in the men’s 8K race — Tim Lehman (2012) and Sam Heckard (2010).
Lehman was 152nd out of 352 runners as he finished with a time of 27:52.14 for Goshen College. Heckard placed 312th for Bethel College in 31:26.23.
Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Turned in two top-10 finishes to help the Ball State University women’s swim team to a runner-up finish out of six teams at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet hosted by Purdue on Saturday.
Vormohr’s top effort came in the 100-yard breaststroke, in which she finished seventh in 1 minute, 7.35 seconds. She posted a time of 25.27 seconds for the Cardinals for 10th place in the 50 freestyle.
The senior also joined Mackenzie Imbro, Jackie Iglesias and Cheyanne Jackson for a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.69.
Frank Thien
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Paced the Ohio Northern University football team in receiving Saturday in a 28-23 loss to John Carroll.
Thien caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from Tate Humphrey nine seconds into the second quarter to give the Polar Bears (2-5) a 16-7 lead. He also had a 32-yard reception in the first quarter, and made a catch for 22 yards in the fourth.
Mary Hudson
Jay County – 2012
Anchored a winning relay for the Calvin College women’s swim team, which hosted Friday’s Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Relays.
Hudson handled the last leg of the 200-yard breaststroke relay as she and Knight teammates Michaela Rookus, Elizabeth Counsell and Maria Sedjo posted a winning time of 2 minutes, 10.3 seconds. She joined Margaret Rechel, Betsy Otten and Alayna Gallegos for fourth place in the 200 medley relay in 1:56.2.
The freshman also contributed to a sixth-place finish in the 100 freestyle relay and a 10th-place effort in the 200 freestyle relay.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Played for the IU East men’s golf team Friday as it finished sixth out of eight teams at the Steven G. Guerrero Memorial Tournament hosted by Owens Community College.
Houck carded a 94 in the event at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was 35th overall and fourth on the Red Wolves’ squad.
Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Opened her college career with a couple of runner-up individual finishes and a relay win on Saturday as the Defiance College women’s swim team fell 114-74 to Wilmington.
Miller finished as the runner-up for the Yellow Jackets in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 2 minutes, 9.85 seconds. She was also second in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.48.
The freshman teamed with Emilee Boleyn, Savannah Marquez and Jacqueline Loock for a winning time of 1:48.47 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Recorded a shot on goal in each of the last two games for the Bluffton University women’s soccer team.
Moore, who shares the team lead with seven goals this season, had one shot on goal for the Beavers (3-11-1) in Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Defiance.
She also finished with one shot on goal Saturday in a 2-1 loss to Franklin.
Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Made one tackle Saturday in the Taylor University football team’s 55-31 loss to Saint Xavier.
Wanner tackled Austin Freeney to halt a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. He is a freshman defensive back for the Trojans.[[In-content Ad]]
