Moore scores for Beavers

A former Starfire recently scored her first goal of the season.
South Adams High School graduate Maddie Moore was one of three players to put the ball in the net Saturday for the Bluffton University women’s soccer team in a 4-2 victory over Goshen.
Moore’s unassisted goal broke a 1-1 tie late in the first half. Goshen pulled even in the second half, but Taylor Fultz scored twice in the final 30 minutes to give Bluffton the victory.
The Beavers got three shots apiece in the game from Moore, Fultz and Kourtney Lewis as they improved to 2-1.
Moore, a junior, scored four times and also had an assist for Bluffton last season.

Fort Recovery – 2010
Shared the team high in kills Friday in the Ohio Northern University women’s volleyball team’s 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 loss to Division III No. 20 Washington (Mo.).
Pottkotter finished with four kills and the Polar Bears’ only block in the loss at the Washington (Mo.)/Asics National Tournament in St. Louis. She also had two kills and one block in Friday’s three-game loss to No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater and a kill and a block Saturday in a three-game loss to No. 6 Christopher Newport.
Abby Denney
Jay County – 2011
Turned in the No. 2 score for the Indiana University East women’s golf team Monday at the Ursuline College Tournament.
Denney shot 53 on the front nine in the three-team event against Ursuline and Point Park. She added a 54 on the back nine to finish tied for eighth with a 107.
Megan Taylor
Jay County – 2011
Ran for the Manchester College women’s cross country team Saturday as it finished 11th out of 18 teams at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational.
Taylor turned in a time of 23 minutes, 50 seconds to finish in 184th place. She also joined teammate Casey Loshe for a ninth-place finish with a time of 46 minutes, 47 seconds on the six-mile course at the season-opening Manchester College Hokum Karem.
Chase Ingle
South Adams – 2010
Competed for the Hanover College men’s tennis team Saturday and Sunday at the DePauw Fall Invitational.
Ingle went 0-6 on the day with his closest match coming in the consolation round of the No. 5 singles bracket. He took the first set from Indiana University Southeast’s Tyler Jackson before falling 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Ran for the Goshen College women’s cross country team, which finished third at Saturday’s Grace College Invitational.
Beitler completed the 5K course in 22 minutes, 55 seconds. She finished sixth on the Maple Leafs’ squad and 23rd overall.
Megan Adams
Jay County – 2008
Played for the Huntington University women’s tennis team in a 7-2 loss Tuesday to Bethel.
The Foresters also fell 9-0 and 8-1 Saturday to Indiana Wesleyan and Northwestern Ohio respectively.
Adams lost 6-3, 6-0 in the match against Bethel College. On Saturday, she and teammate Clara Smith fell 8-2 to Northwestern Ohio’s Tara Carr and Andrea Arango.
Sam Heckard

Competed for the Bethel College men’s cross country team Saturday as it finished seventh out of 12 teams at the Midwest College Open hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
Heckard placed 86th for the Pilots, who were seventh out of 12 teams. He crossed the finish line in 30 minutes, 46 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
