Moore sisters start strong
Collegiate Check-up
The Moore sisters opened their 2012 seasons in style.
Hannah Moore started her collegiate career by helping to lead the NAIA No. 23 Huntington University women’s cross country team to a runner-up finish Saturday at the Wabash College Hokum Karem. Her sister Maddie, a Bluffton University senior, scored one goal in the Tiger women’s soccer team’s 10-0 season-opening victory over Andrews.
Hannah, who graduated from South Adams High School in June, teamed with fellow freshman Krista Wood to post the top time for Huntington as it finished second to the University of Indianapolis in the six-team field. They were fourth overall in 23 minutes, 24 seconds.
Maddie, a 2009 SAHS graduate, scored the first goal in Bluffton’s blowout win, converting off an assist from Jessica Ramirez about 12 minutes into the game. She also took two shots on goal Tuesday as the Tigers (1-1) fell 4-0 to Cincinnati Christian.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Helped the Indiana University East men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish Aug. 30 at the Battle at Bloomington hosted by Indiana University.
Houck shot 42 on the back nine at Indiana University Golf Course and carded an 85 for his round. He turned in the No. 5 score for the Red Wolves, who tied Brescia with a score of 310 but lost the third-place tiebreaker.
Katie Simmons
Jay County – 2012
Competed in her first collegiate meet Friday for the IPFW women’s cross country team at the Golden Grizzly Collegiate Invitational hosted by Oakland University.
Simmons finished the 4K race in 15 minutes, 51.2 seconds. She was fifth on the Mastodon squad and 12th overall out of 56 runners.
Frank Thien
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Was one of eight different receivers to catch a pass for the Ohio Northern University football team in a 16-13 overtime loss Saturday to North Carolina Wesleyan.
Thien finished with one reception for 34 yards. He also made a tackle in the third quarter.
Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Saw his first collegiate playing time Saturday in the Taylor University football team’s 46-0 victory over Anderson.
Wanner made one tackle during the fourth quarter.
Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Ran for the Maple Leafs on Saturday as they hosted the Goshen College Hokum Karem.
Beitler teamed with Natalie Graber to post a time of 44 minutes, 9 seconds for Goshen, which lost the meet 9-12 to Grace. They were 11th out of 16 duos in the race.[[In-content Ad]]
