Museum says thanks

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

When special people do exceptional things it can be very difficult to adequately express thanks to them.

This letter is being written to convey the most heartfelt and sincere thanks from the Board of Directors and the Membership of the Museum of the Soldier to the Jay County Community.

Three years ago the museum held a BBQ chicken supper as a special fund raiser. It was well received and everyone asked us to do it again. Sept. 11, 2004 marked the 3rd Annual BBQ Chicken Supper with more than 700 guests.

Visitors attended from Fort Wayne, Muncie, Indianapolis, Celina, Coldwater, Huntington, Richmond, and New Castle, as well as many Jay County and surrounding area supporters.

Thanks to John and Janice Fisher, Fisher Quality Meats and Catering who did an exceptional job providing the meals. Many others helped make it successful including David Miller and Miller Aviation, Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, Mike Hickerson/Mike’s Rental, Rob Weaver and PG 14 Radio, The Portland Morning Optimist Club, The Portland Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Mays TV and Appliance from Ft. Recovery, Clarel and Kay Strausburg, and The Indiana National Guard-Portland Unit. A special thanks is necessary for the Performance Company for providing three hours of wonderful music, and all of the volunteers who helped sell tickets and assisted at the supper. A special thanks to Betty Williamson who served as Chair for the event and spent the past year making sure it all came together.

Thanks to all these and many more unnamed who came together to make this a successful event. The funds raised are being applied to continued renovation on the roofs at the museum.

To all of these special people, from the Museum Board of Directors, Membership and Veterans everywhere, “thank you.”

Sincerely,

Jim Waechter, Brian Williamson, Deb Price, Eugene Gillum MD, Art Hall, Mike McBride, Mike Bettenger, Matt Simmons and Debbie Waechter, the board of directors, The Museum of the Soldier
