Myers quits Portland force (2/19/05)
Is third officer to resign in last 3 months
Another Portland police officer has resigned.
Patrolman Robert Myers’ resignation was effective Friday. He has been with police department for 11 years.
A statement by Portland Police Chief Bob Sours said that Myers has accepted employment outside of law enforcement.
Myers, who was involved in a chase in 2003 that ended in the death of a Portland man, is the third Portland police officer to resign in the last three and a half months.
The estate of Brandon Hilbert, who crashed about eight miles east of Portland after fleeing police on a motorcycle, filed suit last year against Myers, fellow officer Brad Ridenour and the city of Portland.
That suit is pending in U.S. District Court, Fort Wayne.
Brad Ridenour resigned Oct. 29, 2004, and his brother, Chad Ridenour, resigned Dec. 31.
Brad Ridenour, who was the handler of the Portland police dog, took that dog with him to Iraq to serve in explosive detection.
A new dog was provided by a company from Peru, and officer Steve Schlechty began patrolling this week with that dog after completing training.[[In-content Ad]]
