New figures ready for Jay assessment (02/04/08)

More than four months after the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance challenged local trending figures on the assessment of industrial and commercial property, the numbers have been adjusted.

The amount of change: Two tenths of one percent downward.

The value of Jay County's commercial and industrial property as assessed for the year 2006 for taxes payable in 2007 declined $22,900, assessor Anita Mills told county commissioners this morning.

Recalculation of assessed values of commercial and industrial properties has delayed budget approval for all units of local government, including the school corporation. It could be as late as April before those budgets are approved by the DLGF.

In a related matter, county auditor Nancy Culy said she expects that rebate checks for local property taxpayers could be in the mail within a few weeks. County treasurer Robin Alberson has been reviewing the rebate checks to make sure they are not sent to individuals who are delinquent on their property taxes.[[In-content Ad]]
