New teacher pact OK'd (10/9/04)
School board, JCTA give approval to new contract
A two-year contract with the Jay Classroom Teachers Association was unanimously approved Friday by the Jay School Board.
The contract, for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years, was approved 7-0 by the board during the brief meeting. The contract had been approved by members of the JCTA on Tuesday. This is the earliest in about four years that the contract has been ratified. The contract for the 2003-04 school year was approved in March 2004.
Superintendent Barbara Downing said Friday that it was resolved that in the 2004-05 school year teachers with 20 years or more experience would receive a 3 percent salary increase from the 2003-04 school year. Teachers with 19 years experience or less would receive a 2 percent salary increase plus an annual increment increase, which is based on the number of years the teacher has been employed with the corporation.
In the 2005-06 school year, teachers with 20 years or more experience would received a 2 percent salary increase and teachers with 19 years experience or less would receive a 2 percent plus a annual increment salary increase.
Health insurance provisions remained the same. The corporation will continue to pay 80 percent of the family health plan premium rate and a single employee will pay $348 and the corporation will pay the difference.
The new contract also clarified extracurricular coaching positions for the sixth grade girls and boys basketball, wrestling, girls and boys track, cheerleaders and volleyball, fifth grade boys and girls basketball and middle school assistant cross country.
These changes were needed because sixth graders now attend the middle schools instead of the elementary schools.
The contract also includes information on the teacher’s retirement fund, additional training, benefits, insurance, sick and personal leave and teacher evaluations.[[In-content Ad]]
