Nextel eyes Fort sites (11/16/04)
Company looking at building tower
FORT RECOVERY — Construction of a cell phone tower is planned here, but the exact located hasn’t been decided.
Representatives from Nextel are currently looking at three pieces of land in and around the Fort Recovery corporation limits as possible locations for the tower.
Council members approved the company’s request Monday to take a soil sample on one of the locations being considered which is owned by the village. This parcel is located in the southwest corner of the original industrial park off of Industrial Park Drive. Fort Recovery village administrator Randy Diller said this morning that he didn’t know the other two sites the company is considering.
Currently, the closest tower to the village is located in St. Henry, Ohio, and there is very limited cell phone service in Fort Recovery, Diller added.
Company officials plan to take core soil samples at each site and decide which location they want to build on.
In other business, Fort Recovery Police Chief Maggie Hartings reported that the upgrade to the central dispatch at Mercer County Sheriff’s Department is moving forward.
Hartings, who is the county’s law enforcement representative on the county’s bioterrorism task force committee, reported the group was able to collect a $25,000 match for an $80,000 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
The village council committed $1,000 towards the grant at its Oct. 18 meeting.
The $105,000 will be used for equipment and furniture to upgrade the consoles at central dispatch, which will improve channel quality and radio coverage and allow county officials to add additional radio frequencies for fire, police and emergency medical service departments in the county.
Also Monday, council members:
•Approved the first reading of the village’s updated wage ordinance that includes changes to the village’s mileage reimbursement rate and allows town employees to be paid for jury duty.
•Approved the second reading of an ordinance updating the village’s income tax ordinance to include state approved modifications.
The Ohio Income Tax Department recently approved a bill that changes several state regulations. The bill set a uniform return date of income taxes on April 15, redefined qualifying wages that can be taxed and revised the review procedures.
•Approved transfers of: $87,000 to the general fund from the income tax fund; $4,000 to the cemetery operating fund from the income tax fund; $8,000 to the park fund from the income tax fund; $4,000 to the pool fund from the income tax fund; $3,500 to the park debt fund from the income tax fund; and $1,721.78 to the water debt fund from the water revenue fund.[[In-content Ad]]
