Niekamp reaches double figures in pair of wins (01/27/07)

Collegiate Check-up

Tyler Niekamp gave opponents a dose of double trouble this week.

The Fort Recovery graduate scored in double figures in both games for the Findlay University men's basketball team, which pushed its winning streak to 16 games with wins over Northwood, 74-59, and Marygrove, 86-58. The Oilers (17-1), who are ranked sixth in the NCAA's Division II, have also won 51 in a row on their home floor, which is tops in the nation.

Niekamp had one of his best games of the year Tuesday against Marygrove as he went 4-of-7 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers for 11 points. He also grabbed five rebounds and added one steal.

The former Indian went 2-of-3 from the field, all from 3-point range, and 4-of-4 from the line for 10 points in the Jan. 20 triumph over Northwood. He added three rebounds, one assist and one steal in the 15-point win.

Findlay's only loss this came in its second game of the season at the Tarleton State Tip Off by an 85-82 score to the host Texans in overtime.

Niekamp is averaging 4.6 points per game while playing 14.7 minutes. He is lighting up the nets from the outside as he has made 28-of-59 3-pointers (48 percent).

The senior has also grabbed 44 rebounds, and has 12 steals and 10 assists.[[In-content Ad]]
