Collegiate Check-up

A double-digit win streak inspired Tyler Niekamp to double-digit points.

The Fort Recovery High School graduate more than tripled his scoring average for the University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked No. 6 in the nation in NCAA Division II, in its 82-59 victory Thursday over Hillsdale. It was the 11th straight win for the Oilers, who are now 23-3 on the year.

Niekamp, a fifth-year senior averaging 3.1 points per game, racked up 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 17 minutes. He buried both of his three points attempts and also grabbed three rebounds.

He also had two points and a rebound Feb. 16 in Findlay's 90-61 destruction of No. 8 Gannon (22-3).

For the season Niekamp is averaging 1.7 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game and has 20 assists and five steals. The Oilers close the regular-season today against Ashland.
