No. 1 Cavs smash Fort (10/21/06)

FRHS football

Perennial powerhouse Coldwater dampened Fort Recovery's football season Friday night, knocking off the Indians 55-13 in a lopsided match-up.

The rushing game again proved to be Fort Recovery's demise as the Indians gained just 28 yards on the ground while giving up a staggering 267 yards to the Cavaliers.

Things started badly in the first quarter and continued to get worse all night.

Coldwater's first score came when Tony Harlamert intercepted a Toby Metzger pass and returned it for a touchdown with 10:56 on the clock in the first quarter. Marion de la Rosa's kick was good for the extra point to put the Cavaliers up 7-0.

Then, with 8:04 on the clock, Coldwater's Sam Slavik hit Cory Klenke for a 30-yard pass play that concluded in the end zone. De la Rosa's kick was again good, making it 14-0.

With 3:04 on the clock in the brutal first quarter, Harlamert scored again, this time on a 4-yard run. De la Rosa's kick was good again to make it 21-0.

Wrapping up the quarter with 53 seconds on the clock. Slavik hit Harlamert for a 20-yard TD pass which de la Rosa followed with a good kick to make it 28-0.

In the second quarter, Slavik hit Justin Gray for a 29-yard pass with 7:08 on the clock, and again de la Rosa's kick was good. Then with 1:55 on the clock, Coldwater's Joe Wermert scored on a 3-yard run. Again, the kick was good, making it 42-0 at the half.

Fort Recovery bounced back a bit in the third when Metzger connected with Mike Trobridge for a 30-yard TD play with 6:41 on the clock. Jordan Staugler's kick was good.

Coldwater responded with another touchdown, this one on an 18-yard run by Trent Muhlenkamp with 3:41 on the clock. Kelvin Bruns's kick was good for the PAT.

Fort Recovery's final score of the night came on a 39-yard pass play by Metzger to Craig Sudhoff for a TD.

In the fourth quarter, Coldwater's Muhlenkamp finished things off with a 75-yard touchdown run to end a long night.

Metzger completed 9 of 26 passes for 166 yards, while Coldwater's Slavik completed 13 of 18 for 243 yards. The Indians had 163 yards of total offense to 257 yards for the Cavaliers.[[In-content Ad]]
