No. 1 Flyers top the Fort (10/05/07)
Fort Recovery volleyball
MARIA STEIN - The Indians couldn't slow down one top-ranked Marion Local team. They'll try again tonight.
The Division IV No. 1 Marion Local Flyers knocked the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team back below .500 Thursday, topping the Tribe 25-14, 25-15, 25-11.
Marion Local is now 17-1 and stands as the best team as voted by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association. Tonight the Tribe football team will visit the Flyers, who are 6-0 and ranked No. 1 by The Associated Press in Division V.
Nicole Pottkotter's team highs of six assists and four points led the Indians (9-10, 1-6 Midwest Athletic Conference), and Kinsey Wenning had six kills and four blocks. Emily May totaled nine digs and three points, and Sarah Braun had eight blocks and three kills.
Beth May and Heather Schmackers each had five digs, and Kelsey Wuebker notched four blocks.
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery lost to the Flyers, 25-10, 25-19.
Josie Guggenbiller finished with six assists and five points for the Indians (10-5, 4-3 MAC), Chelsey Leuthold had four kills and four digs and Holly Brunswick finished with four blocks and three kills.
Alyssa Brackman had seven digs, Lorraine Shier scored six points and Lauren Staugler finished with four blocks.
Freshman
FORT RECOVERY - The Indians came close in both games only to fall 25-23, 25-23 to the St. Henry Redskins.
Haley Wilson paced the Tribe (11-7) as she reached double digits in both digs and points with 11 and 10 respectively. Shelby Brunswick had five points, five assists and one block, and Renee Fortkamp had six digs and five points.
Holly Thien totaled five kills, and Caitlin Gehret had one block.
Middle school
The Coldwater Cavaliers proved too much for the Indians, handing the eighth grade team a 25-13, 19-25, 25-22 defeat and topping the seventh graders 25-9, 25-19.
Kara Faller had five kills, two blocks and two digs as the Indian eighth graders slipped to 8-5. Kylie Kahlig totaled 10 points and three kills, Mikayla Westgerdes scored eight points and Olivia Schwieterman finished with two assists.
Chelsea Pottkotter had four points, including two aces, for the eighth grade team (7-6). Heather Vaughn added three points.[[In-content Ad]]
