No. 10 Bremen pounds Indians (02/11/06)

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — No. 10 proved far too much for the Indians to handle.
The New Bremen Cardinals, the 10th-ranked team in Division IV, dominated Friday night’s boys basketball action. They shot 15 percent better than visiting Fort Recovery from the field and committed 12 fewer turnovers in a 76-39 rout.
The Cardinals (14-3, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) scored the first eight points of the game, and held Fort Recovery (6-10, 0-8 MAC) scoreless for the first five minutes. They led by double digits for all of the final 21 minutes of the game.
Scott Steineman led the 51-percent shooting effort for New Bremen by going 10-of-13 from the field for 25 points. He was good on all five of his 3-point tries as the Cardinals shot 12-of-24 (50 percent) from downtown.
Allan Webster was 6-of-12 for 14 points, and Scott Brackman had 10 points and 10 assists. Brian Schwartz had five rebounds, and Brackman and Steineman each grabbed four boards.
Fort Recovery finished with 18 turnovers compared to just six for the Cardinals, and shot just 36 percent. It was 7-of-22 in the opening half.
Only Clint Tobe reached double figures, finishing with 10 points. Travis VanSkyock and Ryan Staugler each scored seven points, and Luke Bihn had seven rebounds.
Junior varsity
The Indians rallied from a 10-point, first-quarter deficit, but fell short in a 57-51 loss to New Bremen.
After trailing 24-14, Fort Recovery pulled to within a single point at the end of the third quarter. But it couldn’t finish the rally as it shot just 34 percent compared to 49 percent for the Cardinals.
Bobby Rammel had 14 points and seven assists to lead the Indians. Wes Kahlig scored 11 points, and Aaron Kahlig added 10.
Matt McCollum racked up 25 points and nine rebounds for New Breman. Andrew Pulskamp added 11 points.[[In-content Ad]]
