No. 3 Cavaliers blow out Fort Recovery (10/18/03)
FRHS football
COLDWATER, Ohio — A quick look at the state poll and anyone could tell this was going to be a rough week for the Indians. Fort Recovery traveled to Coldwater to take on the Division IV No. 3 Cavaliers and came hobbling home after a 51-0 drubbing.
Coldwater (8-1, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) dominated the game throughout, moreso with its defense than with its offense. It actually pushed Fort Recovery backward in the running game as the Tribe finished the night with 31 carries for negative-one yard.
The Indians (1-8, 0-7 MAC) managed just 68 yards of total offense.
Coldwater on the other hand used a balanced attack with 148 rushing yards and 161 passing yards for a total of 309. The Cavaliers scored at least one touchdown in each quarter as they rebounded from last week’s loss to now top-ranked Versailles.
Josh Fullenkamp opened the Cavs’ scoring on a 3-yard run in the first quarter. He also took a 30-yard pass from Alex Hoying for a 14-0 lead after 12 minutes.
Hoying tossed for two more scores in the second period, hitting Ross Homan for 13 yards and Craig Wellman for 16 yards. Those TDs along with a Trevor Stromblock field goal pushed the lead to 31-0 at halftime. Wellman, Joe Wermert and Steve Borger added scoring runs in the second half for the final margin.
Mark Willmann finished 5-of-11 passing for the Indians for 69 yards, four to Tyler Wuebker, who finished with 55 yards receiving. Dominick Post ran five times of 11 yards.[[In-content Ad]]
