No. 7 Fort annihilates Green Wave

GREENVILLE, Ohio - The Indians came out in the second half ready to show why they are one of Division IV's best teams.
Fort Recovery High School's boys basketball team, ranked seventh in the state, scored the first 12 points of the second half Tuesday night. It held the Greenville Green Wave scoreless for nearly five minutes and rolled to a 52-32 victory.
Greg Kahlig hit the final hoop of the first half to give the Tribe (13-1) a nine-point advantage at the half. The visitors went on to dominate the opening minutes of the third quarter, getting two hoops from Cody Fiely before Kahlig capped the 14-0 run on a jumper with 3:49 on the clock.
As they opened their 21-point lead, the Indians held Greenville to 0-for-6 from the field with four turnovers before Graham Luce finally scored with 3:16 on the clock.
The Green Wave responded with a run of its own to pull back to within eight in the fourth quarter, but Fort Recovery ran off another 12 points in a row to put the game away. The first six of those points came from freshman Wade Gelhaus.
Kahlig, who broke Fort Recovery's all-time scoring record Friday at New Knoxville, led the squad with 16 points. Fiely and Gelhaus joined him in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Craig Tobe ripped down 13 rebounds, and Fiely added six boards. Michael Gaerke finished with six rebounds and four assists for the Tribe, which shot 57 percent in the second half.
Luce totaled 17 points for the Green Wave (3-14), which struggled to 12-of-42 (29 percent) shooting for the game. He also had five rebounds and three steals.
Dylan Onoz scored eight points, and Tyler Holzapfel had seven rebounds.
Junior varsity
Jared Kahlig racked up 22 points in leading the Indians to a 45-39 win over Greenville.
Kahlig shot 9-of-14 from the field with two 3-pointers and also hit both of his free throws for his game-high total. He added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Ryan Schoen scored nine points, and Trent Kaiser grabbed nine boards.
The Green Wave got 16 points and four rebounds from Derek Lockhard. Dillon Hesson followed with nine points and three boards.[[In-content Ad]]
