Offender ordinance revised (08/14/07)
Jay County Commissioners
By By TRAVIS MINNEAR-
An ordinance setting fees for convicted sex and violent offenders in Jay County has been replaced with a slightly different one.
The new ordinance follows a state law that requires 10 percent of money from locally raised fees to be placed in a state sex and violent offenders administrative fund. It maintains the same $50 annual registration fees for offenders and $5 charges for changing addresses.
Commissioners repealed the previous ordinance before passing the new one.
In other action, commissioners finalized the following decisions:
•Adopted an ordinance raising the price of birth and death certificates in Jay County to $8 each.
•Signed a statewide voter registration system agreement with the state of Indiana.
The main purpose of the agreement is to establish "rights and responsibilities of the state and county with respect to implementing and maintaining" the Statewide Voter Registration System consistent with state law and the federal Help America Vote Act, according to information provided to commissioners.[[In-content Ad]]
