A rough first half proved the end of the Oilers' season, and of Tyler Niekamp's career.
The Fort Recovery High School graduate and his No. 7 Findlay University men's basketball team ended their season Tuesday with a 75-58 loss to No. 1 Grand Valley State in the regional semifinal round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Niekamp, a fifth-year senior, grabbed one rebound in his career finale. His best game of the tournament came a round earlier as he shot 2-of-3, including a 3-pointer, and finished with five points, one rebound and one assist as the Oilers reached the Sweet 16 with an 88-82 triumph over Gannon.
He also had two points and a rebound in Findlay's opening-round win over Lewis.
Prior to the NCAA tournament, the Oilers topped Gannon 95-73 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals before losing 73-67 to Grand Valley State in the tournament title game. Niekamp had a steal in the semifinals and three points in the championship game.

Won a pair of events as the Huntington University women's track team competed March 15 at the Berea College Invitational.
Roughia turned in a solid victory in the 1,500-meter run, winning by more than three seconds in 5-minutes, 23.1 seconds. She also teamed with Laura Bowman, Cassie Lehman and Bethany McGraw for a win by more than 13 seconds in the 4x400 relay at 4:24.21.
The junior also posted a fourth-place effort with a time of 2:34.89 in the 800 run.

South Adams - 2004
Worked 1 2/3 innings March eighth in the Bluffton University baseball team's 19-9 loss to Thiel College.
Sprunger pitched in relief of Dustin Zizelman and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks.
Alyssa Johnson
Jay County - 2006
Was part of two second-place relay teams as the Taylor University women's track team competed March 15 at the Wabash Relays.
Johnson joined Winchester graduate Tabitha Bogue, Becky Hartman and Becky Hegelein in both races. They quartet placed second in the 4x800-meter relay at 10:19.18 and finished as the runners-up in the distance medley with a time of 13:44.26.[[In-content Ad]]
