'Operation Prom' thanks given

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

The 2009 JCHS Prom is safely over. We would like to think that putting on "Operation Prom" on the Friday before prom plays a small part in this.

For those of you who don't know what this is, it's a mock disaster about drinking and driving and the consequences of both.

It involves wrecked vehicles and students with different injuries.

We treat it just as if it were any other car accident in Jay County. The juniors and seniors get to come out and watch how things are done.

Local agencies in Jay County have worked countless hours over the past four months planning this yearly event so students will be even more aware of the repercussions of drinking and driving.

If we can influence just one student with our message, then we've accomplished our mission.

We would like to thank the following for their invaluable assistance: Patricia Frazee, coordinator; Jay Emergency Medical Service personnel; Jay County Sheriff's Department and Sheriff Ray Newton; Deputies Brandon Hankins and Tony Lennartz; Dunkirk Police Department; Jay County Hospital; JCHS students; Lori Reece, JCHS staff; fire departments from Bryant, Dunkirk, Pennville, Portland and Salamonia; Rescue 19; Barnett's Wrecker Service; Judge Brian Hutchison and Wes Schemenaur from the Jay County Prosecutor's office.

We would also like to thank the following businesses that donated items for the meal: Bandido's, CVS, Marsh, Pizza Hut, Subway and Wal-Mart.

Please forgive us if we've missed anyone. Every single person's contribution was important.

Marla Grady,

Administrative assistant,
