Orange rallies behind Kaup's serving, defense (10/21/06)

Collegiate Check-up

Joscie Kaup pulled within two of one Syracuse all-time record, and fell just one short of an Orange single-match mark.

The outstanding effort from Kaup, who graduated from Fort Recovery in 2005, led the Syracuse volleyball team to a 30-23, 22-30, 21-30, 30-25, 15-13 comeback victory over Siena Tuesday.

The junior finished with a career-best six aces. The school record for aces in a single match is seven, set by Dana Fiume in 1999.

Kaup also had 26 digs, pushing her career total to 1,458. She is just two short of 1993 graduate Andrea Carson's 1,460 digs, which rank second all time.

She also had an assist against Siena, as well as 19 digs and two assists in an Oct. 14 loss to Marquette.

With 487 digs this season, Kaup, the Orange career leader in digs per game, is just 80 short of the school's single-season record. She is on pace to shatter the mark as she averages 18.7 digs per match with 10 contests still remaining on the schedule.
