Committee to hold first meeting on Wednesday
The initial meeting of a committee formed to take a look at issues surrounding large-scale livestock operations in Jay County has been scheduled.
The committee, which is a cooperative effort between the Jay County Planning Commission and the Jay County Health Department, will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. The meeting will be at the health department, located in the Jay County Courthouse Annex, 504 W. Arch St.
Meetings also are scheduled for Sept. 1, Sept. 8 and Sept. 15, with all beginning at 7 a.m.
Among the topics scheduled for discussion Wednesday are an introduction and outline of issues and an overview from John Knipp, an extension educator with the Jay County office of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service.
The committee is comprised of representatives from the health department, law enforcement, the extension services and a farmer/planning commission member.
Current members are Dr. Stephen Myron (Jay County Health officer), Dave Houck (environmentalist/administrator for the health department), Dwane Ford (Indiana Conservation Officer), Jim Zimmerman (president of the Jay County Planning Commission and a confined feeding operator) and Knipp.
