FRHS football
ROCKFORD, Ohio - A flurry of first quarter points fell mostly for the host team and made it a relatively long night for the Fort Recovery Indians.
Fort Recovery, hitting the road for a matchup against Midwest Athletic Conference rival Parkway, gave up a 62-yard punt return less than a minute into the game on the way to a 33-13 loss here Friday night.
Parkway set the tone early, forcing three straight incomplete passes on the Indians' game-opening possession.
The Panthers' Marcas Heitkamp pulled in the punt from Fort Recovery's Bobby Rammel and scampered 62 yards, giving Parkway the lead, for good as it turned out, at 11:19 of the first quarter.
Parkway added three more touchdowns in the first quarter, taking a 27-7 lead.
Fort Recovery, down 14-0, did cut the lead in half at 3:34 of the first period, as Toby Metzger hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Frank Thien.
But that positive turned into a negative quickly, as Parkway's Josh Fisher returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 advantage.
Fort Recovery trimmed the margin again midway through the second period on a 13 yard scoring pass to Thien from Toby Metzger, but Parkway scored what would be the final points of the game on a 7 yard touchdown pass to Fisher from Jordan Thompson with 2:13 left before halftime.
The Indians were limited to just four yards rushing the game on 22 attempts, while Parkway had 107 yards on 30 carries.
Four different Fort players - Greg Kahlig, Metzger, Thien and Rammel - attempted passes in Friday's game. Thien was 3-for-3 for 31 yards, while Metzger and Kahlig were 5-for-15 for 101 yards and 4-for-18 for 56 yards, respectively.[[In-content Ad]]
